Abstract
The St. Dismas Medical Center (SDMC) Assisted Living Facility (ALF) Project was authorized to create a new service line to counteract a decline of inpatient activity. The project objectives are to build 100 light- and heavy-assist units in a standalone residential facility with a sheltered connection to SDMC by late-July 2001 and within an $11 million budget.
The particular deliverables, constraints, assumptions, exclusions, and work breakdown structure are outlined in the Project Scope Statement. Brainstorming and scenario analysis will be used in the risk strategy, while cost-benefit analysis will be the primary tool in project quality management. A…show more content…

Assumptions and Constraints
The following is assumed:
Project funds will be released in a timely manner.
Project team members and resources will be available as needed.
Contractors will have the skills and experience needed to complete the project.
The constraints are as follows:
The construction cannot begin until after the November 1999 city elections.
The facility needs to open by late July 2001.
Operational and administrative policies, procedures, and systems need to be created and regulations and standards need identification.
High-Level Risks As with all projects, there is a risk of running over budget, over schedule, and/or falling short on scope. There are several high-level risks for the ALF project. One particular area of concern was the short seven-month time period for the complex construction project, but that has been extended about another year. Further, the organizational complexity is high with the number of people involved across many functions and the decision-making body being the Board of Trustees. This complexity may lead to delays in decision-making.
The project is also much larger than SDMC has handled in the past with only one team member having construction experience. The operational and administrative regulations and standards for construction and healthcare industries will be complex and have not yet been identified. For the November start date, the case does not mention exactly what date the project should start but rather mentions that it should start after the elections. We do not have the election date so I will assume a start date of November 14th, 2011, which is a Monday. In this case, the end date of the project would be April 11th, 2013. However, the case states that if the project starts in November, bad weather could affect the outside operations, adding as much as 2 months to the duration. If we add 2 months to phase 1, the entire project is delayed 2 months. However, if the delay only occurs in phase 2, than the end date of the project would not be affected since no tasks have phase 2 as a predecessor. This is quite unlikely since it would impossible, in real life, to proceed to phases 3 and 4 (Enclosures and Interiors) without first completing or at least having a certain percentage completed of phase 2 (Structure). Overview of Assisted Living Facilities

...Abstract Assisted living is a fairly new and unique part of the long term care continuum of services. The goal of assisted living is to maximize the independence of older adults while living in a homelike environment. This paper will provide an overview of assisted living facilities including the number of facilities and residents, costs, services, and growth expectations. Challenges with oversight and regulations will be discussed as well as solutions to the problem. Challenges and solutions for staffing and training issues will also be discussed. St. Dismas's mission focuses on inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation of the severely injured and catastrophically ill. While the patient census varied from month to month, it appeared to the St. Dismas Board of Trustees that the inpatient population was slowly but steadily declining. The means utilized to assist with sedation, also helps in the passing of the patient peacefully (Boudreau 3). My father was terminally ill from a bone marrow cancer. He was already on a main course of sedatives, but still in immense pain. I was by his side when the doctor said he was going to give my father the maximum amount of morphine allowable. He said it would ease his pain, it will slow his heart rate, and he will probably pass peacefully. It took maybe an hour. His heart rate slowed, and he passed as if he was sleeping. I was very thankful the doctor was willing and able to do this. Was it physician assisted suicide? Not at all. The cancer killed my father. Question #6. There should be a lot of restrictions on assisted suicide. The first and foremost would be the requirement to go through several counseling steps that might help the person deal with the situation in a different manner.
